Course Description:
OHS Legislation Foundations (OLF) introduces participants to key documentation that governs compliance and safety across the commercial transportation industry. It teaches participants to incorporate useful, compliance-based decision-making in a workplace – in other words, shifting compliance from a ‘checked box’ into a strategic, risk-based tool to guide daily operations and business objectives. This course, formerly known as Legislation, Standards, and Policy, will address key topics including:
- OHS legislation
- Provincial and federal contexts
- Legal responsibilities
- Linkages between legislations, standards and organizational policy and procedure
OLF was designed to help transportation professionals focused on safety and compliance develop the skills and knowledge to be successful at the following:
- Differentiating between the various forms of legislation, understanding how they are structure and the key words used in their composition
- Understanding standards and how they are different, yet, related to various acts and regulations
- Examining the differences between federal and provincial employers
- Understanding the importance of communicating compliance and regulatory information with workers using organizational policy and procedure
