Course Description:

Fundamentals of Investigation (FOI) is a foundational course that provides an introductory overview of legally defensible investigations in Alberta’s transportation sector. Participants will work through real-world scenarios and practice the full investigative process. Key topics addressed in this course include:

  • Investigative terms and definitions
  • Investigation note-taking and biases
  • Provincial and federal investigative requirements
  • Reporting requirements

 

FOI has been designed to help entry to intermediate level transportation professionals develop the knowledge and skills to be successful at the following:

 

  • Understanding of key terms
  • Understanding the nuances of provincial vs. federal requirements
  • Understanding the scope of the investigative process and the order of activities when conducting an investigation
  • Writing factual, investigative notes without including personal bias
