Course Description:

The Light Duty Carrier Compliance course (formerly known as Option 4) has been designed to help drivers understand the rules they must follow and teaches best practices for safe driving to protect all road users. The course is designed for drivers of mid-sized commercial vehicles (4,500–11,793 kg), and key topics addressed in this course include:

  • Rules for commercial vehicles
  • Required documentation
  • Daily trip inspections
  • Cargo securement
  • Truck routes

 

Proctoring Requirement:

This course is subject to mandatory, virtual (online) proctoring. This means your identity will be verified and your activity is monitored throughout the duration of the course. This proctoring will require participants to:

  • Show a valid government-issued ID (such as a driver’s licence). Your ID is not recorded nor stored by AMTA
  • Stay visible on camera while completing the course
  • Stay focused and actively work through the material (reading and answering questions)

If these requirements are not met, you will not be able to complete the course.

 

Ticket Cancellation Information:

Some learners may choose to apply to have a commercial vehicle violation ticket cancelled after completing this course. IMPORTANT: successful completion of this course does not guarantee ticket cancellation, and AMTA does not confirm eligibility. This decision is made by the appropriate government authority.

 

In order to apply for ticket cancellation, the following must be applicable:

  • You were driving a non-NSC vehicle
  • The ticket was issued in Alberta
  • The ticket was for a commercial vehicle-related offence (i.e., cargo securement, trip inspection, etc.)

 

Instructions on ‘how’ to apply for ticket cancellation are included in the course.
